ANTIKULICH II (2010)
THIS IS NOT SVATOPLUK, IT IS (JUST) BAD SCULPTURE!

_place: entrance to Bratislava castle
_date: 22.9.2010 at 2pm

The demonstration Antikulich 2 This is not Svätopluk, it is (just) bad sculpture! (2010) took place at the same day as a National Council’s Chairman – Richard Sulík‘s decision concerning statue Svätopluk was announced. The second protest of an art community was organized by an association Public Pedestal altogether with an artist Anton Čierny. Protestants repeatedly articulated their demand to remove the statue by a Socialistic „normalization“ period‘s sculptor Ján Kulich from a representational area of Bratislava castle. Supporters of a statue were trying to pursue an idea that by an act of removal of this particular statue, the figure of Svätopluk as such would be withdrawn from our history. Anyhow such nonsense propaganda doesn’t take into account that no matter if a figure it represents is relevant one or not, it is simply just propagandistic sculpture of very low artistic qualities. After twenty years from Velvet Revolution we can‘t see any point to interpret own history through a totalitarian aesthetics. This way, Svätopluk statue became symbol of victory of so-called „normalization.“ It proves how Slovak society doesn’t reflect enough on itself. By our protest we refuse to accept such misinterpreted fake pilgrimage place created at Bratislava castle.

The protest follows the initiative ANTIKULICH I (2010), which took place during the official unveiling of statue at the castle in Bratislava and refers to open letter, which art comunity addressed to founders of Svätopluk association.
